24 hr Gulf Stream Fishing Trip
Going off the recommendations of several people, I have looked into 24hr trips with Capt. Dave Tilly of the Continental Shelf in Morehead City for a FAAN fishing trip this summer. Pricing and operations are not that different from other head boat operations in the area, however everyone seems to agree that it is that fastest boat and that Capt. Dave can flat put you on the fish. There are some limited access trips which limit the number of anglers to 40 for a price of $200, unfortunately the dates are very limited and the ones that are available coincide with other activities. The cost for a regular 24 hr trip is $175 at will take 50-60 anglers. They will require 50% deposit to book your space and regiatration can be done with a credit card. You can see tons of pictures at their website www.continentalshelf.com Here are a few points to remember about the trip.
Please post you interest and vote in the poll for the dates that you will be available. We will do everything that we can to schedule this trip to fit the schedule of the largest majority of members.
- Overnight trips are a 2 day catch limit
- Snapper and grouper season aren't open until after May
- the boat has a full galley
- you can bring your own tackle (Limit 2 rods)
- You can't bring bannanas or GPS
- you can bring a personal drink cooler but large coolers for fish must remain at the dock
Please post you interest and vote in the poll for the dates that you will be available. We will do everything that we can to schedule this trip to fit the schedule of the largest majority of members.

Re: 24 hr Gulf Stream Fishing Trip
Here are some details on the closures provided by Capt. Jerry.
The basics are: Red snapper is closed indefinitely, Beeliner (vermilion snapper) is closed from Nov. 1 to March 31. Shallow water grouper (Black, scamp, gag, etc – which is what you would usually catch on a headboat) is closed from Jan. 1 to April 30. All these are subject to the allocation being caught before the beginning of the closure and having to be closed by proclamation earlier than expected, but this hasn’t happened yet. Black sea bass is currently closed. It will open again on June 1 and go until the allocation is caught. That was mid-Oct. last year.

I am good with any of those dates. I really like the sound of the limited access days, less people on the boat means not as crowded and the extra money is well worth the comfort. You did mean 40 on limited access right. So like I said all those dates are fine and what ever everyone wants , just putting in a vote for a limited access trip.
Re: 24 hr Gulf Stream Fishing Trip
I am with Eddie, just about any date should be fine. Limited access is worth the extra $25. I am excited and ready to go. Brandon hooked me up with some delicious granola snacks to take.

Sign me up. I like the idea of limited access. I also like the idea of getting out there before the dead heat of summer hits (although with this wacky weather we've had lately, you can't tell)

Thanks for all of the responses. One that I should have pointed out is that you can vote for more than one date in this poll. I could just read all of the replies, but the poll gives a quick graphical representation of everyone's choice. Please, vote.
Re: 24 hr Gulf Stream Fishing Trip
I have been out on the Continental Shelf with Captain Dave and he puts you on fish!
Everyone caught fish, and some caught some really big ones, 30-40 lbs. Back at the dock, many folks had trouble because the fish were too big for their ice chests and had to leave their tails hanging out!
Fishing with Captain Dave is a HOOT and I'm looking forward to going again. Great choice Tom!

Re: 24 hr Gulf Stream Fishing Trip
After throughly vetting the available dates, we have decided that the best date that we can come up with will be June 23rd, 2012. Each person is responsible for making their own arrangemements. Your can reserve place by calling the Continental Shelf at 800-775-7450. The 24hr trips are $175.
We Hunt State Citation Size Grouper, Red Snapper, Vermillion Snapper, Sea Bass, Triggerfish along with Dolphin, Kings & Others.
24 hr trips depart Saturday 8pm and return Sunday 8pm, and provide for twice the daily bag limits!
Please, post as you make your reservations here. We will try to car pool down to help reduce individual trip cost.

I am still up for going, just waiting for someone else to make a reservation so I know I won't be going solo. Let me know when you make your's!

Re: 24 hr Gulf Stream Fishing Trip
Hey guys. I made my reservation. They said that we need to be there around 7PM. I think that I will leave Fayetteville at around 2 or 3pm and stop for some shopping before boarding the boat. Anyone wanting to carpool, let me know. I'll take a large cooler to haul our prospective catches home in.

Re: 24 hr Gulf Stream Fishing Trip
OOPS!!! I've been waiting three months for the Coast Guard Auxiliary to put on a boat safety course and got a call Friday they will do a course on the 23rd.
Sorry, but will be attending that boat course and will sign up for any other FAAN deep sea fish trips.
Hope everyone good fishing out there.

Re: 24 hr Gulf Stream Fishing Trip
I was just checking out the Continental Shelf website and judging by the pictures from the last overnight trip we can look forward to a very productive fishing experience. Looks like they picked up a bit of everything; kings, grouper, cobia, and snapper. I'm headed home to burn some incense around my jigging stik.

New Date for Offshore Trip
Got a call from the Continental Shelf, yesterday, cancelling the trip that was scheduled for June 23rd. However, we are now going on June 30th on the limited trip. The price changed a little to $200, but they only take 40 people in this trip so it won't be crowded at all. The boat leaves at 3:00pm on Saturday returning at 3:00pm on Sunday. If you take a look at the pics of their last overnight trip the reef was poppin. So, if anyone is still thinking about joining us, give them a call and make your reservation.
Re: 24 hr Gulf Stream Fishing Trip
I'm a little bummed that I have to wait an extra week for this trip, but nonetheless I'm still looking forward to it.
