Cape Fear River bass
Went to the Cape Fear today with a friend. We fished for Bass and threw everything in the box with a hook on it. Fished from 8:30 till 1:00. Caught 5 and all were Spotted Bass and all were on top-water.

attended meeting @ Cpt. Jerry's couple months ago bout bassin in Cape Fear. Think it's an under used resource. Hope to learn more. The rep as a catfish haven turns some away, myself included. Maybe it's worth some time. Access is not too bad.

Re: Cape Fear River bass
Went to the Cape fear River again today to check out the Spotted Bass. The bite was on from 7:30 to 11 am. We put 20 bass into the boat and lost several before landing. All fish were released in good shape for another day. There was only one Large mouth in the bunch. These are not large fish but they are very scrappy and good fighters. We caught them all on top water which really adds to the fun. I think you fly fishermen should try this.

Re: Cape Fear River bass
Thanks for the report Sea Dancer, I too am guilty of not taking advantage of this resource as I should. Sounds like you had a great day. I am ready to take the fly rod and yak down there and give it a try. How about it all you long rodders and yakers , we need to do this. Like the fact that they were hitting on top water , that always gets the heart pumping.
Thanks again

Cape Fear Current
Hey, I am new to this site. I yak fish mostly the ponds/lakes on Bragg and the areas around Hope Mills such as Upchurch, Rhodes, etc...have yet to try the Cape Fear, but definitely want to check it out. Is the river current manageable or is it strong behind RiveSide? I ask because I dont have another vehicle to pick me up, so I will be paddling back to the start point. Thanks.

I am looking at next Monday or Friday. I want to try to get on the water about 0830. Wed Is also possible but probably won't be able to go till after 1100.
BaitWaster I am not sure how fast the river is right now . I usually paddle up stream to start and then come back with the current. I will go by today or tomorrow and check the flow, then post it here.

Well I didn't get over there today so will check the flow tomorrow.
Friday will be fine for me, just let me know. I might go both days, not sure yet.
BaitWaster you should grab you yak and join us.

I might go and check it out with the yak tomorrow a couple hours before sunset. I saw that some plan on meeting there on Friday at 0800. Not sure if my schedule will allow it but if something opens up I will definitely be there.
