Blow Off Upchurch
I went out to Upchurch for a couple of hours this morning. Paddled to the secret spot that was so productive for Hemi last weekend. I tried to anchor up and fish the area around the spot. But could get the anchor to hold and was dragging it at a good clip, Made it tough to fly fish also. Paddled down wind and tried a few of the coves out of the wind but no luck So paddled back to the ramp, it was all into the wind on the way back. It wasn't too bad my yack is not hard to paddle into the wind. I am going to try to get my fish finder working on the yak , had some connecter troubles.
Oh well. Water temp was around 58 at a depth of 6 ft. Sunny and windy. Every one I went by was having about the same day I was.
Better luck next time.

Re: Blow Off Upchurch
Sorry to hear about the wind eddie. How much did they charge you to put your yak in?
Re: Blow Off Upchurch
That seems ridiculous for a kayak to be charged the same as a regular boat. You need to find someone who lives there to let you launch the kayak.

If i remember right if you and someone else rides together they only charge you 10 for the car. I will have to call the guy that has the boat ramp.

I don't see it that way. With unloading and packing my stuff in the yak and then parking and launching I am there about the same time as some one launching a power boat. Its $10 to launch a boat, it is not like the ramp requires more maintenance from the power boats using it than it does from the yaks. The deal is this is a private lake, it is owned by the Home Owners Association and they charge everyone that has property on the lake a annual maintenance fee. So paying to use it if you are not a member just make sense.
I will say this it was a much cleaner area around the ramp, parking, and lake in general than the State maintained lakes I have been to. None of that trash the drunks with a fishing pole on the banks leave at ALL of the free public access areas.
Re: Blow Off Upchurch
I agree with eddie! But like i said before i will check to see if they will let you pay my the car. I will keep everyone posted!
Re: Blow Off Upchurch
I guess this is something we'll have to disagree on. I won't pay that much to fish there especially after coming across town and it costing a 1/4 of a tank to go back and forth. To many lakes around here for free. And I'l just take a bag with me as I normally do to the public places.

LOL.. ok Bobby , yes the gas prices and consumption is a big factor for me also. there are no public access lakes close to me(I don't count Rim Lake) . So it will cost me $10+ no matter where I go, whether I pay a ramp fee or gas to get there and back.
Good point about finding a someone who lives on the lake that would let me launch from there yard. So Anybody live on Upchurch or any lake in Fayetteville that needs a new friend?
I wonder if they sell a season pass at Upchurch. Seems to me Tom posted something awhile back about this.
Re: Blow Off Upchurch
If I sounded harsh sorry. If I still lived off George Owen I'd probably go there a lot and it would be cheaper.

Bobby I ain't mad.... I just think it is great to be able to have a discussion and disagree with someone and not be called names. Everyone wont agree all the time and that is what keeps life interesting, if everyone agreed with me all the time ....wow it would be a scary place....
Re: Blow Off Upchurch
Last year they didnt sell yearly passes for the boat ramp. The next time i go out there i will ask if they sell the yearly passes and i will keep you guys posted.Deepblu505 wrote:
