Me and Crappieassassin headed out to Lake Upchurch to hunt some crappie and carp! The wind was really blowing us all over the place but we did landed some nice fish! Stephen started the day out landing one of the biggest carp he has ever landed that broke his rod! Shocked There are some really big carp in that lake! After the ducks pushed us off the carp spots we decided to try our luck for some crappie. We headed up a creek and I landed a nice crappie and Stephen landed a nice bass. Then we headed over to one of my spots and started hooking up with more crappie. I landed 2 crappie and Stephen was getting them on a cork. We wanted to try for the carp again and we tried to push the ducks out of the area! I ended the day with 2 crappie and 4 carp and Stephen ended the day with 1 Bass, 3 crappie, and 4 carp. I had a blast out on the water and look forward to my next adventure hunting the fish in lake Upchruch! Here are some photo's from today:

Nice.  Always wanted to try for a carp, but that means I'd need to buy more rods, and that'd take away from new kayak savings fund....alas, this is an expensive hobby.

I used a medium heavy  spinning rod. Snag you could use even a medium spinning rod that you would use for bass fishing. They are a blast and pull like a freight train! I am really looking forward to getting some on the fly rod!

Does the fella at Waldo's Beach still charge 10 bucks to launch a kayak?

I have Thursday off so I'll definitely be on the water.  If anyone wants in I wouldn't mind Upchurch again otherwise I think Wyatt earned a return trip.  Caught 8 fish last trip with 6 being solid edible keepers.

I was catching carp on my Medium/Fast 13 Black Omen spinning rod with 10 lbs braid.  Had the drag set to light and lost one fish that I couldn't turn and pulled under the dock.  That was a fun fight and enough rod to handle them without pulling out the light wire bait hooks.  Steve is nuts hooking into those fish on ultra light.

Yes there still is a 10 dollar charge at the boat ramp! But it is well worth the money!

I might have to get out there this coming weekend if the weather decides to play nice.
