The newest Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing program officially began in August of this year. The program has been organized under the leadership of program lead, Chris Tripoli who is to be assisted by co-program lead, Tom Carpenter. Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans through fly fishing and associated activities including education and outings. While there have been several soldiers and veterans from the Fayetteville/Fort Bragg area participating in PHWFF for the past several months under the care of the Wilmington program, service members and veterans from this area will have a program to call their own.
To maximize the opportunities to connect with injured service members and disable veterans, the Fayetteville PHWFF program is working closely with Fort Bragg’s Warrior Transition Battalion and has partnered with the Fayetteville V.A. Medical Center’s Adaptive Sports program. Also, partnering with the program is North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission’s Pechmann Fishing Education Center who will offer a meeting location and additional resources in support. Monthly meetings are scheduled for the third Thursday of each month from 6:30 pm until 9:00pm at the Pechmann Center at 7489 Raeford Road.
The Fayetteville program is continuing to organize and plan future events that will include fly-tying, rod-building, fly-casting, as well as a number of fly-fishing trips for deserving participants. If you wish to be a participant or volunteer click on the following link to sign-up to receive information on upcoming events: PHWFF Sign-up Form. Or if you wish more information about participating, volunteering, or to donate contact Chris Tripoli @ chrtrip@yahoo.com or Tom Carpenter @ t.carpenter@fayettevilleanglers.com
