Lake Upchurch/ Waldo's Beach Fishing Pier Empty Lake Upchurch/ Waldo's Beach Fishing Pier

Post  ssmith69 Mon Aug 27, 2012 9:43 pm

I put this in another area of the site, but I wanted to put it in here:

I spent most of the day at Waldo's Beach Fishing Pier yesterday. Other
than a good sunburn I caught a bunch of bluegills, some of which weighed
a half pound or so, using red wigglers and crickets. I kept a minnow
pot in the water the whole time and never saw a one.

I saw other
people catching fish; one fellow was cleaning up on carp, but he didn't
speak much English, and he wouldn't tell me what bait he was using.
Another fellow said he was catching small bass and panfish using
artificial baits.

One major problem I saw out there was the
boaters! Even though there are signs out there that say "Slow, No Wake
Zone", the majority of them screamed past the pier, a couple coming so
close to the pier that they almost caught my lines in their props.

The
pier is, for now, open Sat & Sun until 7pm. The owner told me that
after Memorial Day he will be opening it on Fri nights too, with the
pier closing totally for the winter in October. As of now he does not
sell bait or anything else (so he told me) and has no plans of opening
the pier 7 days a week. He said he does rent boats at a rate of $40 per
day.

For carp use strawberry or cherry jello, yellow corn meal, flour, and a tsp of vanilla extract. Mix together with some water into dough balls. It's a carp lollipop!

That actually sounds rather tasty, Bobby. Now I'm hungry!

I haven't fished Waldos in a long time. There use to be some great fishing in that lake. I lived a few miles down the road and went there all the time. Back in those days you could buy a year pass and get a gate key to let yourself in and out on those warm summer nights when the bite was on...Smile

I've also seen some nice bass come from around the pier. All that bait, bread, cookies and such that fall into the water attracts baitfish and that attracts the big boys.Laughing
