Easy Fish Art
This is something that you can enjoy at home and it is a lot of fun to get the kids involved in.
Materials Needed:
· A fish (either a real one or a rubber fish models are available from art supply houses)
· Water soluble ink or fabric paint
· Brushes or rollers
· Printing material; rice paper is the traditional media, but copy paper will work very well. Fabric paint can be used on just about any fabric with great results.
Instructions:
1. For a real fish you must first clean the fish. Use soap and water to remove as much of the slime as possible. Then, dry thoroughly with paper towels.
2. Be sure to cover your table with newspaper to protect the surface. Place the fish on the newspaper. Sometimes, dorsal, anal, or caudal fin must be taped or pinned open to display.
3. Apply a thin coat of ink or paint over the entire fish. I have that the thinnest possible coat while still covering the fish completely works best. Multiple colors may be used.
4. Gently, place the paper or fabric over the fish and carefully rub over the entire surface of the fish. To get a complete print ensure that you have completed this step thoroughly.
5. Carefully, lift the material from the fish and allow to dry.
6. Finally, you can paint the eye in with a small brush if desired.
