Line Preferences
We're thinking about putting together an reel maintenance workshop over the winter months and one thing that we're thinking about offering an opportunity to re-spool your reels. If interested, let know what type and # test line that you primarily use.

Re: Line Preferences
Sounds good to me . I mostly use Braid @ 20#. Looking forward to the up coming programs.
Re: Line Preferences
I use 20 lb braid, primarily because I only have two medium rods. The way I figure, 20 lb braid is a good all around line to use so that I'm not constantly changing out my line to match what I'm fishing for.

Re: Line Preferences
Anybody know how much Gander or A.K McClallums charges to re-line a reel per foot? No doubt that they have different prices for mono and braid. Just wondering if anyone has a tackle shop spool their reel and how much it cost.
Re: Line Preferences
I also like fluorescent yellow/green in 17-20# for trolling. Don't like to troll with braid. Gander and West Marine don't charge to re-spool. They just make you buy the line first.

Line Prefeence - Reel Maint./Repair
I'm pretty unsophisticated when it comes to line preference...as I am with most 'technical' aspects of fishing. I mostly go with whatever happens to be on the reel when I get it and adjust the drag so it lets line out before it breaks.
Unsophisticated?? Read: Simplistic and/or Moronic...reflecting on the old adage: Ignorance is Bliss. But, I do catch one now & then and I enjoy learning all kinds of new stuff.
Having acquired several reels at a yard sale, including spinning & bait casting reels, all of which have been unused for several years and have old, sometimes ragged, line on them, I'd be happy to bring some to a reel maint./repair class and accept any suggestions on what kinds of line would be best for them.
If a reel maint./repair class were to be as well planned & presented as the rod making class, I'd REALLY like to participate.
