FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (April 2, 2012) — The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is offering 13 fishing-related events, clinics and workshops in April and May at the John E. Pechmann Fishing Education Center in Fayetteville.

All events, clinics and workshops are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted. For fishing events and clinics, loaner rods and reels are available free of charge on a first-come, first-serve basis and bait is provided.


  • - April 4 – Senior Trout Fishing Event from 9 a.m. to noon. This fishing event is open to anglers of all skill levels, ages 60 and above.
  • - April 11 – Wounded Warriors Fly-Fishing Clinic from 1-5 p.m. This clinic is open to all soldiers, both active and retired, and their families.
  • - April 12 – Angler Skills Workshop: Bass Jig Lure Making from 6:30-9 p.m. This basic skills workshop for all ages will cover the fundamentals of creating bass jig lures. Pre-registration is required.
  • - April 14 – Kayak Fish and Float Workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pre-registration is required. Contact Thomas Carpenter at 910-868-5003 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 910-868-5003 end_of_the_skype_highlighting, ext. 15, or thomas.carpenter@ncwildlife.org
  • - April 21 – Scout Fishing Day from 9 a.m. until noon. This fishing event is open to all Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts and covers the basics of fishing. Troop pre-registration is required.
  • - May 1, 2 and 3 – Special Populations Fishing Day events from 9 a.m. until noon. These fishing events are open to participants of all ages with disabilities; special adaptive fishing gear can be provided. Pre-registration is required.
  • - May 6 – Ducks Unlimited Greenwing Fishing Event from 2-5 p.m. This event is open to young anglers ages 15 and younger. Pre-registration is required. A $20 fee, which is due at the time of registration, covers a rod-and-reel combo, bait and lunch.
  • - May 9 – Wounded Warriors Fly-Fishing Clinic from 1-5 p.m. This clinic is open to all soldiers, both active and retired, and their families.
  • - May 12 – Mother and Family Fishing Day from 9 a.m. to noon. This fishing event is open to children and their families in celebration of Mother’s Day.
  • - May 19 – Basic Fly-Tying Course from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. This basic skills workshop for adults (16 years and older) will cover the fundamentals of tying flies. Pre-registration is required.
  • - May 24 – Angler Skills Workshop: Spinnerbait lure making from 6:30-9 p.m. This basic skills workshop for all ages will cover the fundamentals of creating spinnerbaits. Pre-registration is required.
