me and Luni's day!
woke up to a text from Luni this morn and had forgotten about my post earlier this week and jumped up and we decided it was to windy to hit upchurch lake so we settled on the gamelands since it was somewhat out the wind for the most part anyways.
It was a slow bite on crappie and a no go on bass i figured they would all have lockjaw after all the rain. So i stuck with my usual jig and cork since its been so productive lately and it was the ticket again!! ended up landing 3 and loosing 4 because i didnt notice the barb on my jig had worn off :/ once i switched jigheads up it was ON!! 2 biggest where 12 and 13" smallest was 9".
Luni had seen the way i was using the jig and cork set up and started using it and landed his FIRST crappie EVER and First in the new cuda!! it was a solid 10" crappie and thick as all get out! glad we got out and met up finally Luni now we all gotta get on big upchurch now
got em all filleted out and bout to fry em up!!

Re: me and Luni's day!
Knew it was going to be a slow day. Wasn't counting on that slow. An old broken ultra light rig, a bobber rolling around my truck, and an 1/16oz jig head and white crappie tube got it done though.
Gonna order up some jigs and craws and start practicing my pitching so I can beat up the grass lines and ledges better and target those bass. Really thought the shaky head would do the trick.

That's the other Upchurch Lake that's managed by NCWRC. It gets confusing.
They were hitting right off the dead lily pad stems where the ledge falls off from 4ft to 8-12ft. Jigs were floating at around 3-4ft. Chart 1/16oz jig head with a white crappie tube. Cast out, let it settle, then bring it back with a steady start stop retrieve just to keep the jig moving. Whenever a cloud would roll over the crappie would break from cover into open water and hit then when the sun came back out they would go back to hiding.

Re: me and Luni's day!
I am really looking forward to fishing a new spot this year! In the google map link which one of the lakes is UpChurch? My bet is it is the bigger on with the dock but I see 3 bodies of water there.
Re: me and Luni's day!
Yup big one is Upchurch. I've never seen anyone hook up around the dock. I've pulled some small fish off that shoreline, seen lots of I think crappie popping topwater over the summer. There's lots of sunken trees in there that have my lipless crankbaits hanging off them. The inlet end has a channel running through the middle with lots of sunken trees and bushes that hold fish. Getting behind the trees into the grassy shallows has gotten me on fish too. Just plowing through everything and going where the other boats can't.
The first small pond off the road looks like a giant dirty puddle. The small pond behind it you have to drag to and definitely doesn't have any fish it
