Trailer Question
Hey guys.
Do I have to hook straps to the transom of the jon boat? Or am I able to go across the top of the back of the boat with a tie down strap like you see people have loads on flat bed trailers?

Re: Trailer Question
Bobby like Ben said I have seen it both ways also. I don't think you would have any trouble just going over the gunnels with a tie down. It is light enough it probably wouldn't put alot strain on your front strap. Just make it tight and you should be good.
Re: Trailer Question
Thanks guys. Couldn't find any regulations on this.

Re: Trailer Question
I used to rent 14 ft. jon boats with 9.9 hp mercs from MWR at Ft Bragg, and drag them 350 miles to the mountains. A couple of times I even put a 14 ft canoe on top! A bow tie down and one strap across the boat was the way they came, and all I ever used. Never had any issues. But the strap was either Type VIII or similar nylon (at least 3600 lbs tensile strength). I would not use those cheap one inch wide ratcheting straps sold at Walmart. Use the nylon similar to the seat belts in your auto.

Re: Trailer Question
Thanks Bobby. I've got one about 3 inches wide that I'll be using on it. Got it from Harbor Freight Tools.
