Tar Res 30 May
Met Ben Parker from this site and we hit Tar Res yesterday. Weather was a little too nice. Blue Bird skys and minimal to no wind most of the day. Fishing was tough. The water started aroun 75 degrees and looks like ice tea. I wonder if it ever clears?
Ben is a stand up guy and anyone who wants to volunteer to take him fishing will have good company.
We didn't do all that well. Unfortunately my boat was having cooling issues so I guess I need to change the water pump. That put us pretty much just putting the trolling motor down and pounding the bank. All we caught were dinks. I got one on a jig but the rest were caught on cranks in 1 foot of water up to about 7.
I should have told Ben I have one rule in my boat. I catch the most or the biggest. If I don't my guest walks home. Ben kill me with his square bill. LOL
Other than cooling issues. Nice day and good company. Thanks Ben. We will hit Badin next. Ron

Re: Tar Res 30 May
LOL! Actually, you went fishing with Ben Bryant. LMAO
Walks home? I'm glad you forgot to mention the rules. LOL
I had a great time fishing with Ron! Can't wait to do it again!
I ended the day with 4 bass and a perch. One of the bass was a little bit bigger than the Strike King KVD 2.5 diving crankbait that I caught it with. It was hillarious. My two biggest was roughly 2-3 lbs.
Most of my fish came on a Strike King 1.5 squarebill. I used 3 diferent colors; Clear Ghost Sexy Shad, Sexy Shad, and Chartreuse Black Back. The diving crankbait that I was using was in Gizzard Shad.
Considering the conditions, blue skies and light to no wind, it wasn't that bad of a day.
Thanks again Ron for the great time! I can't wait to do it again!

Sounds like that was a good trip. Glad yall had fun. Where is the Tar Res? Thanks for the report.
Tar Res 30 May
First Ben. Sorry for the name change. Don't hold it against me. 21 years of service I am still used to seeing peoples names on their uniforms. You're lucky I remembered your first name.
Tar Res is just a damned up portion of the Tar River that joins with Sapony Creek. Its straight up 95. Take 95N to Exit 132. Take a right. Then 1 mile later take a right on Old Carriage. You will run into the lake.
It's a pretty decent place to go from Fayetteville because it fishes so small. Althought farther from Eastover than Harris, the gas is about the same because it's all interstate. Plus you will use very little gas on the water. And for you Kayak fans, it would be a great place because of the lack of current and being protected from the wind.

Re: Tar Res 30 May
Thanks Ron , sounds like a great place . Have to drag the kayak and some of the guys up there sometime.
Re: Tar Res 30 May
The Tar Reservoir kind of reminded me of Lake Upchurch in the way it fishes. It's about the same color, maybe a shade lighter than Upchurch. I think you kayakers would enjoy it. I would like to go back there one day soon.
