Wounded Warriors/Military Appreciation Event
The NCWRC Pechmann Fishing Education Center hosted the Wounded Warrior, NC Sportsman, and Military Appreciation Event on Wednesday, 13 June, 2012. The event is an invitation to both the soldiers and their families to enjoy the fishing opportunities the Center provides.
Captain John Smith volunteered his fly tying skills and instructed several anglers and folks from the WOMAC TBI Unit in tying their own flies which they later used with success. Others leaped right into the heat of things (and it was hot), and got down to business. To everyone's surprise, the children really shined today. Six year old Elizabeth overcame her initial shyness with the first bend in her rod.
Elizabeth became so adept at catching, netting, and releasing the fish that others were calling for her assistance!
Here she poses with Evelyn from the TBI Unit and her nice fish on a fly rod!
And below, Lance gets a tip on safe fish handling from a veteran. He needed it too! By last count (his), he caught 30 fish
d
But the big catch of the day went to one of the visiting physical/occupational therapist from the TBI Unit with a nice fish on a fly rod!
There were lots of smiles to go around, and in spite of the many fish caught, still there was talk of the "big" one that got away!
Looking forward to fishing with everyone again in July!

Re: Wounded Warriors/Military Appreciation Event
Good job by Bobby, John, Brad and others - Thanks for pinch hitting for me while my wife is on the mend. I've said this many times but it can't be said enough, "we couldn't put on these programs without the help of our volunteers"
