Bassin Big Muddy
Not sure about these days but in years past the Big Muddy use to be a bass fishing paradise. My fishing buddy...Bobby Parker....and I use to hit the Big Muddy late afternoons and fish on into the night or get there real early, while its still dark and fish on into the mornings.
Topwaters are great at night and early morning. We used big Rebels and Rapalas to lure big bass....
There are lots of lilly pads in the lake. Just look around and you should be able to see where the channel cuts thru these areas. Have another rod rigged with a plastic worm with a very small weight, just enought to sink the work and not over power it. Big black or red or Tequila Sunrise colors work great.

Re: Bassin Big Muddy
This lake is closed as of now for repairs on the dam. I spoke to the game warden last week and he confirmed that there are some big bass that call this lake home and when the lake re-opens, it's going to be on! Little muddy also holds some big bass as well as pickerel. I have been fishing the little muddy the past few weeks with good results. I'll be heading there tomorrow so, I will give a report.

I haven't heard if it is open or not but I will check it out tomorrow, I do hope it is . As Scott said earlier it is a very good bass lake.
Re: Bassin Big Muddy
The week before last I was at Luzon DZ and drove by it on the way to MAAF and I didn't see any signs that said closed anymore. I did see more signs about rules of the park area and whatnot. Didn't have time to stop and check it out tho. I noticed it had a boar ramp. Anyone ever put in there? I have a flat-bottom deck boat that floats really nice in the shallows.

Well I never launched my "Boar" out there but have been out in a canoe there . Small flat bottom should be fine.
Re: Bassin Big Muddy
Lol, I would pay to see a boar launched. I have big fingers!

Bassin' Big Muddy
Big Muddy was drained to repair the dam in 2007. I retired April 2008 and haven't been back since, but it wasn't repaired when I left. Something about money. Good to hear they repaired and refilled it. Camp Mackall range control used to be 396-4925/1836. Give them a call.
Back in 1989, they drained Little Muddy and transferred 37 fish, 8 lbs and over to Big Muddy. One was over 15 lbs and would have been the state record. There is a large flow of water and lots of forage in both lakes; the fish get big fast. There are some lunkers in Little Muddy now. And Waco Pond was one of the best kept secrets out there too!

Re: Bassin Big Muddy
Has anyone been out the the Big Muddy recently? Just curious since the lake was closed for nearly 5 years. I bet the bass had a good ol time getting fat and happy.
